Titan Honorable Mention Athletes of the Week: Ana Schremp (Soccer)

Congrats to this week’s Honorable Mention Athlete Ana Schremp (Soccer) on receiving recognition from Palo Alto Online on 1/29. Ana was also recognized as Athlete of the Week 2 weeks ago.

Again, congratulations to last week’s Honorable Mention Athletes Mikayla Silverman (Wresting) and Calvin Cai (Wrestling) on receiving recognition from Palo Alto Online on 1/22.

Basketball
Boys basketball lost at home to Santa Clara in a tight game 53-50 on Friday, 1/24 despite 22 points from Kaden Holdbrook

Girls basketball dropped a 48-36 decision to visiting Santa Clara  on Friday, 1/24 but Mollie Kuelker scored 14 points, Joyce Lian added 10 points and Pooja Bucklin had nine.

Football
Congrats to Kylen Liu, Jack Dellenbach, Leo Ye, Saia Faasisila, and Eitan Smolyar who represented Gunn in the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Game this past Saturday, 1/25 at Westmont High School. Also, our very own coaches led the North Team - Head Coach Jason Miller and Defensive Coordinator Mark Weisman! 

Mark your calendars! Palo Alto and Gunn will meet in a non-league football game Sept. 4 at Gunn, the first time the two have played since 2012. Gunn coach Jason Miller also characterized it as a friendly rivalry. "We are going to integrate activities and community fun in order to become an exemplary friendly rivalry modeled for schools everywhere,'' Miller wrote via text to Palo Alto Online.

Soccer

Gunn boys and girls lead the SCVAL El Camino Division in the soccer race! 

Boys soccer maintained its lead in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division with a 3-1 victory over visiting Saratoga in a match Wednesday, 1/29. Senior James Hahn scored twice for the Titans and senior Colin MacPherson also scored. Joey Cianfichi, Rayan Taghizadeh and Preston Dankwah each recorded an assist for Gunn.

Boys soccer edged host Lynbrook 2-1 in a SCVAL El Camino Division contest Friday, 1/24. Senior James Hahn scored a goal in the first half, with an assist from Danny Bisenti, for a 1-0 lead. Lynbrook tied the score in the second half but senior Ryan Wang's diving header into the goal off a well-timed cross from freshman Kevin Landverde gave Gunn the go-ahead goal.

Girls soccer beat host Cupertino 4-0 to remain atop the SCVAL El Camino Division standings on Wednesday, 1/29. Sophomore Emersen Sweeney scored twice and sophomore Elina Saab-Sunden and freshman Emma Listgarten each scored once. Saab-Sunden added an assist as did sophomore Ana Schremp and junior Morgan Cianfichi. Goalie Maya Glazer recorded the shutout in her varsity debut for Gunn.

Girls soccer beat visiting Lynbrook 5-1 in a match Friday, 1/24. Sophomore Ana Schremp scored three goals and freshman Mia Steadman added a pair as Gunn. Schremp, Steadman, Elina Saab-Sunden and Emersen Sweeney each had an assist for the Titans. Girls JV won 4-1 against Lynbrook.
