Gunn Sports Boosters asks families to consider a $250 participation donation each season that their Gunn student athlete competes
Gunn High School’s athletics program receives limited financial support from the school district; PAUSD only funds the coaches' stipends. Budget cuts and state regulations in recent years have eliminated all additional funding for high school sports. The school district has calculated that the cost per athlete per sport is close to $250. This amount includes: league fees, tournament fees, referees, busing, medical supplies, most equipment needed to compete, and award ceremonies.
Athletic Participation Donations (APD) fund the majority of Gunn Athletics' budget and help keep our Gunn student athletes well-equipped and competitive.
Are Athletic Participation Donations and Sports Boosters Donations the same?
No. As mentioned above, the Athletic Participation Donations are used to fund the Gunn Athletics program and its 45 teams. Gunn Sports Boosters raises funds separately to supplement this budget and to disperse monies from requests by teams/coaches, and to help with larger infrastructure or equipment purchases. See our current initiatives here.
The suggested donation per student per sport is $250 but any amount is appreciated
This is the amount that the district sets as their average cost per athlete to run Gunn Athletics. Without this money, the athletic programs can’t continue, and will cease, as has already happened in some districts in California.
Remember, because we're a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the APD is completely tax deductible. You will receive a donation confirmation email that includes your donation amount and our tax ID.
